Installation of the Xiaomi Aqara motion detector

The motion detector and all the other components that are sold in the Xiaomi Aqara 5 in 1 kit are already associated, but the additional components must be associated.

Placing the Aqara motion sensor.
I installed the motion detector in the corridor of the rooms. It controls a lamp that lights up when you get up at night, for example.
On the back of the element, there is an adhesive and simply stick it on. An additional set of adhesive is provided.

On the other hand, I noticed that if the sensor has its head down, it detects movements much less well, which is very embarrassing, because I would have liked to stick it to the ceiling, not having a shelf in the corridor to place it.

But this restriction remains to be confirmed, as I have seen several people place them on the ceiling. This may be related to the problem of delay that I discuss below.

We see on the image "Optimal detection range" that the detection is done towards the front, the bottom and the sides which would confirm my restriction on the positioning on the ceiling.

As much as the Aqara door and window sensor is very reactive, I find that the Aqara motion sensor is much slower. There is a delay between two detections that is not a few seconds, but rather one minute.

For example, if you set up a 15-second ignition on motion detection, you will be in the dark for 45 seconds. The minute is counted from the time of ignition and not after 15 seconds.

Here is a short video to show you the reactivity and delay of the motion detector. Both lamps are switched on at the same time. The top one stays on for 2 seconds and the bottom one for 12 seconds. However, they turn on again at the same time after one minute....

Configuration in the Mi-Home application

Creation of a scenario based on motion detection.
As I told you above, I have put a motion detector in the corridor of the rooms and I want that as soon as there is a movement, the light turns on for 2 minutes per movement detected between 22:00 and 20:30 and stays on fixedly between 20:30 and 22:00, as soon as a movement is detected, until my son goes to sleep.

For the ignition scenario on motion between 22:00 and 20:30 we have:

If:
Corridor sensor => Movement detected.
So..:
Corridor lamp = ON.
Time-lapse = 2 minutes. Pause before the next action.
Corridor lamp = OFF.
Period:
Start = 22:00.
End = 20:30. Unfortunately, the graduation being one hour, I can't choose 20:30, but 20:00 or 21:00. So it will be 8:00 p. m.
For the time difference problem do not forget that you have to select the French hours, however, there will be a 7:00 time difference on the display.

For the fixed ignition scenario from 20:30 20:00 to 22:00, we have 2 other scenarios:

Ignition scenario:

If:
Corridor sensor => Movement detected.
So..:
Corridor lamp = ON.
Period:
Start = 20:00.
End = 22:00.

Extinction scenario :

If:
Time = 22:00.
So..:
Corridor lamp = OFF.

I find it unfortunate that the choices and options are quite limited in the creation of scenarios, choices by hour and not by minutes among others. I would also like to be able to condition the condition of the components; for example, if lamp ON, Then or WHEN for example, would also be very practical.

Conclusion.
The biggest disadvantages are:
The lack of choices and options in the scenarios.
The one-minute delay between each detection.
A time difference with the gateway.

The biggest advantages are:
The quality and size of the door and window sensor.
Easy installation.
The price.
Possible integration.
